My current night time skincare routine

My current night time skincare routine

When it comes to my night time skincare routine, I always stick to the following:

  • Cleanse.
  • Cleanse again.
  • Tone.
  • Serum.
  • Oil.

Occasionally, I'll mix things up by starting with a micellar water, using a facial brush, or throwing in a lotion or cream, but I make sure these 5 steps always happen.  

let's break it down

I like to use a face oil as my first step.  I'm currently using The Body Shop's Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil, but another favorite is the One Love Organics Vitamin B Enzyme Cleansing Oil.  I like using cleansing oils on dry skin, rubbing it into my skin and gently over my lashes and brows to break up that dried product.  Then I hold a warm washcloth over my face for a bit, and eventually wipe and rinse everything off.   Since I'm following up with another cleanser, I just pat my skin dry here.

Currently, my second cleanser of choice is the Milky Jelly Cleanser from Glossier.  This little gem is such a great second cleanser because it feels so hydrating, but I really feel like my face is new again after I use it.  It leaves your skin baby soft and clean- exactly what you want to end your day feeling like.  Born again, people!

Next, I tone.  You may be thinking of the good ol' days when you would use Clearasil astringent pads in the locker room after basketball practice, but let me introduce you to the Anna Wintour of toners.  Reader, meet P50.  Just google "p50 toner" and you'll find all the resources you need to convince you that this will change your life.  I am so paranoid of being without this, that I have a backup at all times.  I need to do another post on this to give it it's due attention, but the short of it is that this is a chemical exfoliant that takes always all the dead skin, leaving you with the softest and smoothest skin of your life.  I WILL NEVER BE WITHOUT THIS STUFF.  (I'll link my other blog post here when it's ready.  In the mean time, read this review.)

I like to let my toner set, and my skin to get pretty dry before moving forward.  I've been trying out a new serum by Drunk Elephant, the T.L.C Framboos Glycolic Night Serum.  I've heard nothing but good things about this stuff, and so far, so good.  It stings slightly when I apply it after p50, which I love.  I may be crazy, but I think it only stings when I rub it over a blemish.  The main thing I see this doing for my skin is reducing hyperpigmentation, and soothing new blemishes.  This stuff is pricey, but I got mine off Dermstore.com when they were having a sale.  Plus, you get 15% off your first purchase, so you could catch this for up to 30% off!

And finally, just when you thought you were about to get in bed, there's one final step.  I always like to apply a face oil before bed, and my current potion of choice is also by Drunk Elephant- the Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil.  This oil is definitely luxurious.  It's very moisturizing, and pretty thick, so I only use about 3-4 drops at night.  (I also use this in the mornings when my skin is looking pretty dry- I find that if you don't use too much, it doesn't disturb my makeup at all.)  You'll wake up looking so glowy and hydrated, you'll be tempted to go makeup free!  I swear it!

So that's it folks.  Even though it seems like a lengthy process, this takes me about 10 minutes to knock out (keep in mind there's some waiting time between products), and is something I always do- no matter how tired or grumpy I am.  It's funny how much a small task like washing your face before bed can rejuvenate, relax, and restore your mood and mind.
